Geosynthetics play an important role in the current construction engineering. These materials, combining geotechnical and synthetic properties, are used to solve a number of issues, such as soil reinforcement, erosion protection, drainage, waterproofing, etc.

Reinforcement of soil and soil structures
Soil reinforcement
Geosynthetics such as geogrids and geotubes are widely used in soil reinforcement. They are able to improve mechanical properties of structures installed, enhance strength and durability. Geogrids make a shell preventing soil migration and ensuring a uniform load distribution. Geotubes, in their turn, are used for shoreline reinforcement and industrial and domestic effluents treatment.
Geotubes are represented by Geospan GT, and geogrids, by Geospan GC (GCP) in Geospan range.
Erosion protection
Geosynthetics play an important role in preventing soil erosion. Woven geotextiles and geomats are used for making protective covers over slopes and ramps. They prevent soil wash-out by rain and allow keeping the shape and stability of soil structures. Besides, geosynthetics combined with vegetation can be used for arranging ecofriendly bioprotective systems against erosion.
Geotextiles are represented by Geospan GT PP and Geospan PET in Geospan range. A proper geotextile brand is selected based on design and calculations.
Drainage
Geotextiles are widely used for making drainage systems in industrial and civil construction. Thermally bonded geotextiles and geocomposites effectively evacuate surplus water out of soil and prevent moisture accumulation, which contributes to maintaining strength and stability of geotechnical structures. Drainage geomaterials ensure fast and effective evacuation of water, preventing hydrostatic pressure and possible structure damage.
Heat bonded geotextiles are represented by Geospan BB, while Geospan GT PP D represents drainage composites, in Geospan range.
Waterproofing
Geosynthetics, including geomembranes, are used for ensuring a structure waterproofing. Geomembranes prevent penetration of water and chemicals, which is especially important for protection of underground objects such as plastic waste, water reservoirs and so on. Geosynthetic binding tape secures sound connection of geomembranes and ensures their leak tightness.
Geospan GT PP M represents geomembranes, while Geospan KL represents geosynthetic binding tape, in Geospan range.

Road construction
The wide use of geosynthetics includes road construction. Woven geotextiles are used to reinforce the road base and prevent soil migration under the road pavement. Geogrids can be used for asphalt reinforcement and prevention of cracking and potholes.
Geospan GT PP and Geospan PET represent geotextiles, while Geospan GC (GCP) represents geogrids, in Geospan range.
Conclusions
Geosynthetics application in industrial and civil construction plays an important role in soil reinforcement, erosion protection, drainage and structure waterproofing. These materials are characterized by high strength, resistance to chemical impact and durability. They help engineers design stable, safe and ecofriendly facilities.
Proper application of geosynthetic materials requires design and calculations based on relevant formulae and standards. The R &D company Engineering Center deals with such tasks in close cooperation with technical support units of the Geospan producer, and is capable of professional solving of unorthodox issues in project design and construction, including those used under complicated geotechnical conditions.
