A complicated 15-km-long section of Yenisei R-257 federal motorway is located in a mountainous area. The section is characterized by height difference and substantial longitudinal slopes. Avtodorproject – Trassa OOO, responsible for design, was given a task to develop an effective engineering solution for the road pavement. A structure comprising Geospan GC 30/15 volumetric geogrids was calculated jointly with Gexa’s engineers. As per the calculation, the structure proposed possessed enhanced shear resistance along the longitudinal slopes and met all the norms including RIM 218.3.032-2013. As a result, decrease in the road pavement thickness down to 38 cm was achieved.
The engineering solution in-principle correctness was approved by the federal agency ROSDORNII. The section overhaul was completed in 2016.
